Air filtration systems have gone from being a home catalog item to help those with allergies to a necessity for protection against airborne pathogens. The Enhanced Plasma Sterilized (EPS) Filtration System improves air quality by eliminating airborne bacteria, viruses, mold, toxic chemicals, and volatile organic compounds. Produced by Atmospheric Glow Technologies (AGT), Rockford, Tenn., the advanced filtering of the EPS system has been proven to render harmless biological agents such as anthrax, smallpox, and mustard gas.
The AGT team composed of developers from several organizations made the EPS to filter air by using their "One Atmosphere Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma" (OAUGDP) technology. OAUGDP generates an electrical field that disrupts exposed atmospheric molecules to create plasma and highly reactive oxygen species including monatomic oxygen. These oxygen molecules then attach themselves to atomic structures that come through the filter, altering their chemical properties to an otherwise harmless state. This plasma technology has been tested with satisfying results for side effects that could be developed from the byproduct of this oxygen interaction.
